Ajyal’s Sindyan Scholarship Programme aims at supporting excelling students from most disadvantaged Palestinian communities to enable them obtain university education from their local universities. The Programme also aims to enhance students' personal, academic and professional capacities and skills.
The deteriorating economic conditions of many Palestinian localities and refugee camps make the cost of higher education is an unbearable burden for most families. Consequently, thousands of students are unable to enrol and continue their studies because they can’t pay tuition fees.
Ajyal's Sindyan Programme will offer students scholarships that cover tuition fees and monthly living stipend. A range of training workshops are also integrated in the scholarship focused on personal, academic and professional skills, community services and many more. Graduates from Ajyal's Programme will be empowered academically as well as socially embedded within their own communities.
Our philosophy in the programme is to instil and enhance a deep sense of dignity and social responsibility within our students; that is to be a support provider not only a receiver. To this end, our students will be required to annually design and implement community projects that benefit their local community. The Programme will provide training to students on project planning and implementation to help them in the process. By the time of graduation, each student would have designed and implemented three community projects expanding by that the base of beneficiaries from the Programme reaching to a larger number of community members. In addition to helping their own community and environment, students will acquire and hone a range of skills and capacities throughout their involvement in the Programme.
For sustainability of impact, the Programme supports each student for up to four years or until they finish their undergraduate degree; provided they continue to meet the requirements of the Programme.
Ajyal will select the most deserving scholars through a rigorous, objective, transparent and accountable application and selection process.
Cost per student per year is $3,200 That includes tuition fees, monthly stipend, skills and social-responsibility training and delivering programmes.
